Hannah had a rainbow party last weekend to celebrate her third birthday!
I made her this cute rainbow tutu, but didn't think about what she was going to wear under it until the night before the party. Her only solid colored shirt and pants were a little too small, so you'll see a lot of tummy pictures.
We worked really hard to get the house all decorated before she woke up. We thought she would be so surprised and happy.
She woke up tired and wasn't as ecstatic as we'd hoped.
Devan gave her two rules for the day: No pacifiers and no cupcakes until the party. How did that go? She snuck two cupcakes before breakfast and only picked at her special birthday pancakes. For lunch we had beautiful "rainbow sandwiches."
And dessert was a rainbow candy bar.
I was so happy with how the food and decorations turned out. I never, ever could have pulled it off without all the help my mom, aunts, and Devan gave.
We've had funny weather this April. I was hoping for a warm Saturday so that we could have her party outside and invite all of her friends. I had invitations made out for 12 kids, but I was waiting to send them all out until I saw how the weather was. It went downhill on Wednesday and by Thursday night there was snow on the ground again. I invited a few people on Thursday and Friday and we had a fun party packed into our little living room. I was so sad we couldn't have everyone there that we wanted to. After the party Hannah started listing her friends who weren't there. It made me sad. But I was so grateful for everyone who was able to make it there. Hannah was uncharacteristically reserved the whole party. I think she was overwhelmed by how many people were at our house. But she had a great time.
Chad, Stephanie, and Xay
Jennifer with Josh and Jorjia
Grandma, Uncle Kory, and Hannah
Victoria, Aunt Dena with Victoria's Tiffany, and Lindsey and Noelle
Ari and Kevin. I can't ever seem get that girl to look at me in a picture!
Chandler and his mom
Nathanale (Hannah calls him Nafamel) wanted me to take his picture, but apparently he'd only agree to an action shot.
Ben and Tiffany
After lunch the kids went in Hannah's room to play. We pulled out the parachute that we'd bought when we were still hoping for an outdoor party.
I made bean bags for a game that never took off. Maybe next year...
Then she opened presents. She was really tired by this point so she didn't get super excited about any one thing, but she's been having a great time playing with all her toys the last few days. We're so grateful to everyone who brought a present! I think she was a little overwhelmed by how many presents she had to open.
Chad made the mistake of picking up Ben.
Then everyone wanted in...
I think it got harder as the kids got older and older.
Cake time!
Devan told her to raise her arms up and say, "Ta-Da!" So her stomach is showing in all her candle pictures.
By the time it was cake time, she was ready for it. She sat for about a half an hour all by herself eating her cake and ice cream. The funny thing is, she's done that at every one of her birthdays so far. By the time the cake comes, she's completely exhausted and she sits all by herself and quietly enjoys her cake.
After most of her friends had left, I remembered that we'd never pulled out the rainbow crayons we made a few days before the party. So, we put down some giant paper and the kids kept themselves entertained for a few minutes while the adults chatted.
Two of Hannah's favorite friends.
Hannah asked for a train set for her birthday so we bought her this one back in February and have been so excited to give it to her.
So far Devan has been enjoying it more than Hannah has.
At the end of the night, we offered her ANOTHER piece of candy if she would just give us ONE good picture.
Apparently that was too hard for her. We did give her the candy though. She IS the birthday girl, after all.
